If there is something like a common thread in my life, it would be my passion for photography. I started taking pictures with my father’s camera when I was 12 years old. His camera was a Praktica NovaB which had a 50mm lens and an absolute purism. After adjusting the film sensitivity only the combination of time and aperture could be chosen. It had neither autofocus, nor exposure metering and my allowance was just enough to purchase rolls of film. Ultimately photography is about the same important aspects. Crucial for me was the development of my own inner eye to identify the subject and carve it out. It’s somewhat secondary whether the picture is saved on a chip or a film strip, or, whether it’s been created with a modern or ancient camera. Photography has always been my passion. I spent hours sorting my pictures in folders, boxes and hard disks, all labeled and marked. I looked at many pictures of other photographers, some with admiration, some with incomprehension. My pictures seldom got out of their dark binary data archive to be seen by others. Perhaps it was the fear of disappointment or the worry that my perception of the world would not be appreciated. After much of my wife’s encouragement the idea of an exhibit developed. I decided to share my pictures with other people in the form of a virtual gallery. I am curiously awaiting people’s reactions and feedback.
Thanks to my lovely wife Sonja, my parents Renate & Herbert, Nina & Jim for giving me the last kick to go forward and all the persons who allowed me to show their photos on my website.
